Referees are an integral part of the game, without referees the game cannot be played. The referee wears multiple "hats" during a game. Referees are unbiased in the game management responsibilities with authority over the field, players, substitutes, bench personnel, fans, and their referee team.

The number one focus for the referee is to keep the game safe! The "Laws of the Game" are written to keep the game safe. By becoming a referee you take on that responsibility. There are two entry grades for referees, dependent upon the state you referee in will determine what age you can begin.

There are expenses to becoming a referee: class, registration fees and membership dues to ASOA to be assigned games. Of course, you have referee jersey, referee shorts, referee socks, cards, whistle, watch, flags, and etc. However, these small investments should pay for themselves after working several games.
